vs computer📖 Strategy guide: How to solve Ferry: read the first move off the legend, then plan the trip back
How to play
Everyone starts on the near bank, at the bottom. Tap passengers to seat them in the boat (tap again to let them out), then tap the boat or Row across. The boat has a fixed number of seats and only moves with a rower aboard; rowers wear a small oar badge. The legend under the river lists the day's rules, such as fox + hen only with the farmer: that pair may share a bank only while a guard is on it too. The boat counts as part of the bank it is tied up at.
If a crossing would break a rule on either bank, the boat refuses: the pair shakes, the rule lights up and nothing is counted. Get everyone across in as few crossings as you can. Keys: 1 to 9 seat passengers in order, Enter or Space rows, U undoes, R restarts.
Daily, levels and challenges
Normal is the daily river, the same for everyone and new at midnight UTC; your best result today stays on the page. Easy has four or five passengers and a par of 5 or 7. Hard has six or seven, a two-seat boat and a par of 11 to 17. ⚔️ copies a link to the exact river you are on. ↶ takes back a crossing and ↻ starts again.
How the puzzles are made
Each river is drawn from a seed: cast, rowers, seats and clashes. A solver then tries every crossing from every position, a breadth-first search over at most 256 positions, and the shortest route is the par. A river is kept only if its par is in the level's range and every rule matters: drop any one rule and the river could be crossed faster. Rivers that cannot be crossed are thrown out.
Tips
- Find the troublemaker, the passenger in the most rules. On Easy, when there is one, it is always on the first crossing and always rides back once.
- Bringing someone back is not a mistake. In our tests no Normal or Hard river could be crossed with only a lone rower on the return trips.
- Check the far bank too: a pair that is safe where it is can clash with someone waiting over there.
