How to play
You get five figures, one at a time, each with one instruction. Tap, click or drag inside the square to place your point. Move it as often as you like; the arrow keys nudge it in small steps. On a touch screen the marker sits a little above your finger, so the finger does not hide it. Press Lock in (or Enter) when you are happy. The game then shows the true point as a yellow ring, a line from your point to it, and how far off you were. After the fifth figure you get your total.
The five figures
- Midpoint: a slanted line. Right is the point on the line exactly halfway between its two ends.
- Centre: a circle. Right is the point at the same distance from the outline in every direction.
- Fourth corner: two sides of a parallelogram. Right is the missing corner, where the two sides that are not drawn would meet.
- Crossing: two lines that stop short of each other. Right is where they would cross if both carried straight on.
- Bisector: an angle with an arc between its arms. Right is the point on the arc with the same angle on either side.
Scoring, daily and challenges
Every figure is drawn in a square 100 units on a side, whatever the size of your screen. Your error is the straight-line distance between your point and the true one in those units, to one decimal. The five errors add up to your score, and lower is better: 10 or less is a sharp eye, 5 or less earns the top rating. The daily round is the same five figures for everyone and changes at midnight UTC. You can replay it, but only your best result counts. Random deals a fresh set, and ⚔️ copies a link to the exact five figures you are playing, so a friend can try to beat your total.
Tips
- For the centre, compare the gap between your point and the outline on opposite sides: left against right, then top against bottom.
- For the crossing, extend one line with your eye first, then the other.
- For the fourth corner, slide one drawn side along the other in your head: the missing corner is where its free end lands.
- If a slanted line is hard to judge, turn the phone until the line is level. Halves are easier to see that way.
