📖 Strategy guide: How to reach 2048: why the corner rule alone fails

How to play

Slide all tiles in one direction with the arrow keys, WASD or a swipe. Tiles with the same number merge into one when they touch. After every move a new 2 (sometimes a 4) appears. Reach 2048 to win, then keep going for a higher score.

Strategy

• Keep your biggest tile in a corner and build a descending chain along one edge.
• Avoid the one direction that pulls your big tile out of its corner; use the other three.
• Do not fill the board with small tiles: merge early, merge often.
